Other than stuff about Beetlebaum, corpse flowers and men stuffing eels up their rectums and having their bowels eaten, I find other articles fascinating. This one is of interest for several reasons. The Mayas have been studied for a lot of years and yet new things emerge about their society and accomplishments (other than the fact the world will end in 2012–did anyone catch the showing on History Channel (or was it A&E?) of Apocalypse Island,
purporting to be the spot to watch first a transit of Venus and then the eclipse on the day of our death Dec 21, 2012? What struck me as odd about it was how they went on about the difficulty of climbing the crumbling rock spire yet the cameraman was up there first shooting downward, showing them struggling aloft. He had a camera to carry up, too!)

The idea that the Mayas had pressurized water makes me wonder if drought did force them to migrate and eventually die off. This is a fairly sophisticated procedure and I doubt they used it only for showers and fountains. Of course, the best pressurized water system won’t work if there’s no water all. No more toilets, no more bidets.

If I’d read this a while back, my Chain Story story “White Fur” might have been different. But I don’t go back and fiddle with a story once it’s done. Better to write something brand new. Luckily, there is always something just a bit newer.

All this is part of the hidden world around us we don’t see or haven’t figured out yet. Intriguing and what else has been missed about the Mayas?
